A brass dish with a pressed version of an unofficial crest for Hobart, Tasmania. The official crest was introduced in 1953. This version depicting a plough above a rococo shield, centred with farm hand tools and a bushel; the Kangaroo and Emu looking at each other, with a ribbon beneath with the Latin inscribed ‘Sic fortis Hobartis Crevit’ this apparently adapted from “Thus Etruria grew strong” in the second book of Virgil’s Georgic’s.

Stamped on side ‘Made in England JS&S Solid Brass’

Dimensions: 11.7 cm diameter (nr: 4.5 inches)          

Condition: worn surface due to cleaning, some minor surface corrosion and edge dents
