Item: OA111
A Papuan New Guinea, Southern Highland, Huli tribe, ceremonial headdress. The headdress made from bush string, human hair and in this case margined with job seeds, serves as a plate form on which arrangements of colourful feathers, flowers, foliage, often to include colourful, iridescent insects decoratively arranged, so to become a feature object in traditional ‘sing-sing’ dance ceremonies. Once the ceremony over these wigs was cleared of decorations and stored away till next ‘sing-sing’. This example appears to have had many years of use.
