A Large fine example of Papua New Guinea nassa shell bride-price object. Numerous nassa shells have been sewn onto a fibrous and flexible bark with bark string. These objects were of great virtue to the owner and could be worn as personal adornments and thought to have protective qualities from bad spirits.
Shell area: 46 cm x 20.5 cm (nr: 18 x 8 inches). Overall length 82.5 cm (nr: 32.25 inches).
Condition: good, some splitting of the strap ends, expected wear for age and use.
