John P. Kalantumama started assisting the two founding potters Eddie Puruntatameri and John Bosco Tipiloura at the Tiwi Pottery, Bathurst Island, Northern Territory in the early 1970s. His talents recognised, he started exhibiting with the Pottery Gallery, Sydney in the 1980s; this one of his early exhibition pieces, marked ‘JPK 80.’
