A late 19th Century to early 20th Century sterling silver pate knife.  Blade etched marked ‘Hobart within a scrolled banner. Handle made of a square rod twisted, final as a map of Tasmania. On reverse ‘Golding’ and ‘Stg. Silver’.

William Golding was apprenticed around 1860 to David Barclay an established watchmaker, jewelry, and silversmith, based in Hobart, Australia, since 1830. Later, Golding bought-out Barclay’s business on his retirement from Barclay. Since then it has passed through several generations of the Golding family up to present time (P.
